Planning Approval has been granted for the new 6th Form Boarding House at Concord College, Shorpshire.
The new 3 storey building has been designed sit within the tight constraints of the proposed site and maximise views out to the local landmark “The Wrekin”. Softer façade materials of timber and zinc have been used which contrast with the existing adjacent buildings but also complement the rural surroundings.
Each of the 60 beds has an ensuite WC and shower pod including 3 accessible bedrooms on the ground floor. There are 2 House parent dwellings and a tutor bedsit spread across all three floors and in addition a student common room and kitchen with private garden space. The building envelope has been designed to exceed the insulation requirements of the Building Regulations and air source heat pumps with solar arrays on the roof will provide hot water and maintain running costs to a minimum.
Construction is intended to be complete by late 2025.
