Work is underway on the new 6th Form Boarding House at Concord College, Shorpshire. Construction will take place simultaneously with the new Sports Hall at the College, also designed by squiresandbrown.
The new 3 storey building has been designed to sit within the tight constraints of the proposed site and maximise views out to the local landmark “The Wrekin”. Softer façade materials of timber and zinc will be used to contrast with the existing adjacent buildings but also complement the rural surroundings.
Each of the 60 beds has an ensuite WC and shower pod. There are 2 House parent dwellings and a tutor flat spread across all three floors and in addition a student common room and kitchen with private garden space. The building envelope has been designed to exceed the insulation requirements of the Building Regulations and air source heat pumps with solar arrays on the roof will provide hot water and keep running costs to a minimum.
Construction is due for completion in late 2025.
